Augmented reality could be seen as the full scale map, rolled out over the entire world that dives us detail and addtional information that we wouldn't normally have. When you look at it in that way, it becomes obvious that the mobile in your pocket is a great way to deliver that augmentation, and you also realise that you've been using some of the aspects of augmented reality already.
